Hiking Adventures
Kachemak Bay State Park is an amazing place to hike. Not only is
it teaming with wildlife such as bear, moose, coyote and lynx,
but it also contains a wide variety of environments to explore.
These include beaches, forests, glaciers, lakes and the
awe-inspiring alpine. Halibut Cove Adventures offers guided
hikes for every ability and is happy to accommodate your
interests. Available Tours Starting at Rusty's Lagoon on Glacier Spit, hike through geologic time as you walk the way of the glacier. This easy to moderate hike takes you through beaches, forests and glacial moraines. After reaching the lake, continue the loop by way of the Saddle Trail. Perfect for all hikers. This intermediate to advanced hike offers spectacular views of Kachemak Bay, Grewingk Glacier and the Kenai Mountains. Starting at sea level, pass through dense spruce forest and make your way above the timber line. At 2,200', hikers are rewarded alpine meadows, tarns and overlooks. Bear, goats, moose, ptarmigan and marmots are frequently seen, but other hikers are not. For the most serious adventure-seekers, consider attempting the summit at 3,600'. This makes for a 12-hour day, but is well worth the reward. The best way to experience Kachemak Bay State Park is by land and sea. This trip combines a half-day of kayaking and a half day of hiking.
